About jewelry

Jewelry refers to ornaments that used to decorate individuals and related circumstances. Jewelry represents another significant way in which people costume themselves in the effort to self-define. Jewelry is truly an illustrator of the idea of self-definition simply because much of it is entirely non-functional. The rarer the material is made from, the more value it holds. Jewelry like this is used to mark important occasions because it was considered valuable.

Dolomite, CaCO3.MgCO3, is a mineral commonly found with limestone and carbonate sediments of coral reefs. The rock, consisting principally of the mineral dolomite, is also called dolomite; more recently it has come to be called dolostone.
The process of the formation of the mineral and rock is referred to as dolomitization. Limestone and dolomite, which are included in the same classification, have close geologic affinities. Dolomite is commonly a replacement for limestone to dolomite by the addition of magnesium.

Dolomite is typically colorless or white but the common replacement of some Mg by Fe2+ produces a yellow or brown color in a dolomite rock.

It has Mohs’ hardness 3.5 – 6 and specific gravity 2.86, both values being higher that for calcite; it is poorly soluble in cold dilute HCl unless freshly powdered.
